Engines for your defender

At TATC Defenders we only fit newly remanufactured engines and transmissions. Our engines are hand built by the very best engineers in the Defender community. Similarly, the gearbox and transfer box on every Defender is remanufactured for us by  a dedicated team of Land Rover specialists and engineers.

300TDI

The 300TDI is a 2.5ltr (2,495cc) 4 cylinder diesel engine and is widely considered to be one of Land Rovers finest engines. Produced from 1994-1998 the 300TDI is easily capable of keeping up with modern-day traffic and TATC also offers numerous upgrades to this engine including our Performance Pack, a modern VNT Turbo, an uprated Intercooler and a bespoke stainless exhaust system. Historically our best-seller, the 300TDI is a modern classic. We regularly see examples with over 500,000 miles showing just how reliable the 300TDI really is and its still being used by the British Military to this day!

3.5ltr V8

The Rover V8 uses gasoline and was in production in various forms from 1967 to 2006. Starting off life within General Motors, Land Rover acquired the rights to their renowned V8 and went on to produce nearly 1,000,000 of these V8’s in various Land Rover and Rover products! With the ability to produce excellent performance figures the 3.5ltr V8 is an excellent choice and sounds incredible. Clients can also choose to add a Turbocharger to this Engine creating a real firecracker!

TD5

The TD5 launched as the successor to the 300TDI and is a 2.5ltr 5 Cylinder Diesel Engine used in Land Rover products from 1998 to 2007. Capable of +200bhp and significant levels of Torque the unit is highly tuneable and lends itself perfectly to powering all models of Land Rover. Defenders powered by the TD5 are now eligible for import into the USA and the TD5 can be considered as the “next generation” of powerplant for classic Defenders. For Clients looking for a Diesel Engine capable of towing and covering long distances with ease the TD5 is highly recommended.

EcoBoost

Recently added to our range is the modern “crated” Ford EcoBoost Gas Engine. A 4 Cylinder Turbo Engine generating +300BHP this Engine provides an exceptional level of modernity and comfort to the Defender whilst retaining the classic external aesthetic of the vehicle. Backed by a Ford Warranty this Engine is suited to those who are seeking to use their Defender as a daily-driver or for those longer journeys. Typically this Engine is paired with Ford’s 10 Speed Auto-Transmission making journeys truly effortless.

BMW 2.8i

In the 1990’s BMW took over Land Rover and a little known Defender variant was created, powered by the BMW M52 2.8i Gas Engine. Only 1,395 were ever made making this probably the rarest Defender around. Capable of nearly 200BHP and 300NM of Torque, Defenders powered by the 2.8i are capable of sub 10 second 0-60 times and redline at nearly 6,000RPM! Quite the experience in a classic Defender and great fun.

LT1

For those seeking more power in their Defender TATC are able to install the stunning Gen 5 LT1 by General Motors. This engine option fits nicely within the Defender engine-bay and offers approximately 450bhp in Gen 5 configuration. Mated to an 8 Speed Auto Transmission this combination makes for effortless driving paired with exhilarating acceleration and performance. Clients can also choose to specify the LT4 which offers Supercharged performance with approximately 650BHP!
